About the Trainers

Dan Drury:
Dan is an owner and agency President  with over 25 years of experience in the field. He is a certified social worker and has trained with Options for the past 20 years. He is a board member of WI AAIDD,  past President of RSA, member of DSPN WI and board member of SEWTI.

Darlene Williams:
Darlene is currently a program director for Options and has been training with us for the past 13 years. She has over 18 years of experience in the field and brings with her a wealth of knowledge.

Leann Reichertz:
Leann is the Day Program Director for Options and has been with the corporation for nearly 18 years.  She has extensive knowledge in the field.

Heather Hitchler:
Heather is the corporations Human Resource Director and an owner of the agency. She has been in the field of IDD for over 25 years and has extensive knowledge of the rules and regulations of Adult Family Homes and Resident Rights.

Challenging Behaviors:
This extensive 6 hour course covers the important aspects of working with many types of challenging behaviors. The first half the course focuses on working with behaviors from the inside out and how our behavior can largely affect the response and behavior of the individuals we serve. The second half of the course covers the stages of behaviors and how to respond to them and teaches participants some basic ways to protect themselves if a client becomes physically violent.

Dietary Needs:
This 3 hour course covers the fundamentals of proper diet including food preparation, sanitation and storage of food. Participants will test their food safety knowledge in a fun and interactive quiz and lean about various food poiseners. We also introduce ways to prepare delicious meals in a healthy manner and prevent diseases by picking the right foods.

CBRF Fire Safety:
This is an extensive 4 hour course covering the basics of fire safety. Participants will learn to identify the stages of fire, how a fire spreads, extinguishing methods and precautions in working with various flammable materials. Learn how to run various types of fire drills and other important life-saving information.

CBRF First Aid & Choking:
This is an extensive 4 hour course.  Statistics show that each one of us has a high chance of sustaining a serious injury in our lifetime. Knowing how to respond to accident and injuries when they occur is critical. Participants will learn the basics of wound care and ways to recognize and respond to sudden illnesses.

CPR / AED:
This 3 hour course teaches participants the skills of CPR, AED and Conscious and Unconscious Choking. This is a class no one should ever be without.

Needs Assessment / ISP:
This is an 4 hour course that teaches how to conduct an Assessment, develop an Individualized Service Plan, and formulate an Annual Evaluation. Participants will gain hands-on experience in formulating ISP’s in class.

Resident Rights / Abuse / Confidentiality:
This is a critical course teaching the Resident Rights, Abuse and Confidentiality Laws. Knowing what the guidelines are will help staff to make proper decisions. This is a 6 hour course.

CBRF Standard Precautions:
More and more concern is being raised about exposure to blood borne pathogens. This class identifies blood borne disorders and ways to decrease your risk of exposure and contraction.

Documentation 101:
This course is not a mandatory one but is very important to have in keeping your records maintained properly. It covers the legal aspects of documentation and the things that staff need to pay special attention to when charting. Staff have commented that this is a course they wish they could have before they start working.

Resident Rights / Abuse / Confidentiality Recert:
This 2 hour class offers a review of consumers rights, abuse awareness and regulations and confidentiality laws. This class is done in the format of a game and gives staff the opportunity to answer questions individually and as part of a team. The review is done in an informative, fun and interactive format. It is updated yearly with any changes in regulations or standards.

Standard Precautions Recert:
This 2 hour class reviews the fundamentals of Standard Precautions including the 5 types of Hepatitis, Tuberculosis, HIV and AIDS, Transmission Based Precautions, OSHA Standards for working with hazardous chemicals and basic safety requirements in the home. This class is taught in a game format giving staff the opportunity to answer questions individually and as a team. This class is updated with the most current information and research every year.

Medication Review:
This 2 hour course reviews the medication rules and regulations. It also includes a section for spotting medication errors and hands-on review of medication passage.

Client Specific:                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                         This 6 hour course reviews diagnosis specific information in topic areas of request to the agency attending the training or of internal request.  Topics included in this training are:  Depression, Aspergers, Alzheimers, and other Diagnosis specific topics.

CPI: Crisis Prevention Institute-Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Class:
This two day seminar includes the introduction to crisis prevention that emphasizes early intervention and nonphysical methods for preventing or managing disruptive behavior.  CPI’s safety techniques are included.  Day two expands on the first day of the seminar to introduce the study and practice of crisis prevention methods, including restraint positions, transport techniques and team strategies.

CPI Recert:
This class is for staff that have taken the two-day CPI training and need a refresher.  This four hour class will review crisis prevention, early intervention and nonphysical methods of preventing disruptive behavior.  Also included are restraint positions, transport techniques and team strategies to deal with a potential crisis..
